January 1: New Year, New Me

It’s the first day of 2020, and I am embarking on an ambitious challenge: observe a different holiday each day this year, and blog about it.

Today, of course, is New Year’s Day, when many people make resolutions for the new year. While I’ve never been crazy about making resolutions, this is the perfect time to note the big change in my life, which I’ve been writing about for some time now. On Monday I underwent bariatric surgery–technically laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The next 30 days are going to be a huge adjustment for me, but I really think getting the surgery when I did is really appropriate and will make it an easy way to chart my progress.

Please stay tuned (perhaps subscribe) as I write about this big change in my life, as well as the daily holidays and observances I will be learning about.
