January 9: National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Document

The K9 Unit of the Lake County, Illinois, Sheriff’s Office.

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, or Police Day, has been celebrated in the U.S. since 2015. Police in the U.S. have fallen under increased scrutiny in recent years, especially due to the Black Lives Matter, but overall I believe police officers are well-meaning and serve the public honorably. Cops have a hard job to do, putting themselves in danger every day, so I feel that anyone undertaking the profession deserve some credit. While there are certainly improvements to be made in law enforcement across the county, I believe in general our communities are better off for having our police departments.
